Essay

Globalization, what is it good for?  If it is even good at all. Globalization is happening around us all day, everyday. We use our phones, that are designed in california but assembled in china to look at things that are trending from all arounds the world. From people planking in Australia to people snow biking in Sweden. Everyday objects and devices connect us to the world around us.

‘Globalization affects us individually and collectively. Eventually, we will have less of an individually identity and a more collective identity and a more collective identity will be reached. This will unite us all; one culture, one world.’ If globalization brings us so close that we all get assimilated then that means that we would not have an ‘identity’. It means that we will just be. the whole world will dress the same, watch the same tv shows and eat the same food. Some people think this would make the world a very boring place. They think it will ruin cultures and destroy individuality.

Chiquita bananas have taken advantage of economic globalization. They produce there bananas in Ecuador and many other Central and Southern American countries. Then there shipped and sold across the world. They talk about how the seal shows that the bananas a real peach but we need to use our political and social globalization power to raise awareness about the problems Chiquita creates.

Sesame Street is a show made in the United States of America but is now popular all over the world. Now a-days we watch television shows that are Made in other countries. Its a recognized icon and shows that our beliefs and values are spreading into overseas countries just from a simple television show. Sesame street is just a small shot of the big picture. That people are getting connected and becoming more informed.

So if your drilling for oil on an offshore rig or just eating a banana split, your taking part in globalization. Some people don’t like that the world is getting ‘smaller’. They don't like that someday we might have a one world economy and that one day we may all dress the same and talk the same language. I myself don’t care because no matter what I think, I’m just along for the ride.
